From the recording TRENCHCOAT MANIFESTO: WHICH MOMENT
Lyrics
The roadside prophet
Unfolded his scroll
Consulted the wisdom
Of ancient sages
And shouted out, "Everything must go!"
"This will be your only notice!"
Nobody noticed, though
The city streets
Were hard and mean
They had seen it all before
The air was choked
With sewer smoke
Rising from below
With faces cracked like pavement
Figures faded by the distance
It is prudent to maintain
Lingered for a moment
Then were gone again
The cabbies and the ambulance drivers
Didn't want to know
You paid your fare
They'd take you anywhere you'd wanna go
The meter was always running
And the traffic was always slow
But they would get you home
